Background: 

The Commission concluded a busy year of public field hearings on Nov. 22. Witnesses presented testimony on potential fixes to the Bankruptcy Code for business bankruptcies. Examining topics such as the expansion of the use of secured credit, the growth of distressed-debt markets and other externalities that have affected the effectiveness of the current Bankruptcy Code, the Commission will propose reforms to chapter 11 and related statutory provisions. The work of the Commission is expected to deliver a Final Report to Congress at the end of 2014 The teleconference features Commissioners examining the progress of the Commission in 2013 and steps toward the final report at the end of 2014.
