ABI PUBLISHES UPDATES TO TWO POPULAR TITLES: PREFERENCE DEFENSE: THE CIRCUITS COMPARED AND BANKRUPTCY OVERVIEW
August 27, 2010 Alexandria, Va. — The American
Bankruptcy Institute has just released both the new Second Edition
of Preference Defense Handbook: The Circuits Compared, and the
Sixth Edition of Bankruptcy Overview: Issues, Law and Policy.
Updated by one of the original authors, Deborah Thorne
(Barnes & Thornburg LLP; Chicago), Preference Defense: The
Circuits Compared, Second Edition is designed to assist
practitioners and credit professionals in evaluating the available
defenses that may be asserted in a preference avoidance action.
Including important changes made by Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and
Consumer Protection Act of 2005 (BAPCPA), Ms. Thorne has updated the
book to include a review of the leading cases in each circuit,
interpreting the most common defenses and providing a helpful roadmap
for those facing preference demands. The softbound, 194-page Handbook is
available for $25 for ABI members and $45 for non-members.
Bankruptcy Overview: Issues, Law and Policy, Sixth Edition, was
updated by Prof. Juliet Moringiello of Widener
University, ABI's Spring 2010 Robert M. Zinman Resident Scholar, and
provides an overview of the fundamental features of chapters 7, 11, 12
and 13 of the Bankruptcy Code. Overview explains the nature and rights
of both secured and unsecured claimants, as well as avoiding powers,
executory contracts, discharges, jurisdiction and venue, bankruptcy
taxation and family law. The softbound, 200-page Overview is
available for $25 for ABI members and $45 for non-members.
Members of the press interested in interviewing either of the authors
should contact John Hartgen at 703-894-5935 or [email protected]. Both
books can be purchased through the ABI Bookstore at http://bookstore.abi.org.
