ABI RELEASES COMPREHENSIVE MANUAL ON THE CHAPTER 13 BANKRUPTCY PROCESS

June 11, 2009 Alexandria, Va. — The American Bankruptcy Institute has released Chapter 13 in 13 Chapters, which provides a comprehensive overview of the chapter 13 process from the perspective of both debtors and creditors. Written by consumer bankruptcy attorney William J. McLeod (Boston) and edited by M. Regina Thomas of McCalla Raymer, LLC (Atlanta), the manual provides insight on everything from filing preparation and debtor education to the role of the chapter 13 trustee and the discharge of debt, as well as things to consider before a case is converted to chapter 13 and when to modify the terms of a chapter 13 payment plan. Practitioners are also given advice on such issues as the timing of the debtor’s tax filings, anticipating and addressing a debtor’s change in circumstances post-confirmation, enforcing the debtor’s rights against a creditor’s collection activity, and post-discharge actions. Containing case citations, key excerpts from relevant sections of the Bankruptcy Code and many samples of forms, Chapter 13 in 13 Chapters is the essential reference guide that attorneys should have at their fingertips to assist in their practice and to share with clients to help explain the chapter bankruptcy process.

Members of the press interested in interviewing the author should contact John Hartgen at 703-894-5935 or [email protected]. The 276-page softbound Chapter 13 in 13 Chapters is available for pre-order ($35 ABI members; $55 non-members) at ABI's Online Bookstore. Click here to order. http://www.abiworld.org/abistore
