ABI’s 18th ANNUAL BANKRUPTCY BATTLEGROUND WEST CONFERENCE NAVIGATES THE LATEST WAVE OF INSOLVENCY

December 17, 2009, Alexandria, Va. — More than 150 practitioners are expected to attend the American Bankruptcy Institute's (ABI’s) 18th Annual Bankruptcy Battleground West conference, scheduled for March 5, 2010, at the Hyatt Regency Center Plaza in Los Angeles. The day-long conference, titled “The Perfect Storm: Navigating the Latest Wave of Insolvency,' offers up to 5.0 hours of CLE credit. This year's program addresses some of the issues that have emerged during the latest insolvency cycle, including the conflicts between intellectual property and bankruptcy law, challenges to the structure of insolvent real estate enterprises, the increasing use of pre-packaged and pre-negotiated plans as a restructuring strategy and the re-emergence of litigation challenging lenders, their claims and their reorganization strategies. Jerry Nickelsburg, economist at UCLA Anderson Forecast, returns to provide a keynote examining the progress of the economy over the past year and predict the future direction of the U.S. economy.

Nuts & Bolts for Young & New Practitioners, a separate day-long bankruptcy fundamentals course, will again be offered in conjunction with the Bankruptcy Battleground West conference and will be held the day before on March 4.

Program co-chairs are Martin R. Barash of Klee, Tuchin, Bogdanoff & Stern LLP (Los Angeles), Debra Ann Riley of Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis LLP (San Diego) and Jeffrey M. Reisner of Irell & Manella LLP (Newport Beach, Calif.). Bankruptcy Judge Barry Russell (C.D. Calif., Los Angeles) is the Judicial Chair.
