ABI’s 19th ANNUAL BANKRUPTCY BATTLEGROUND WEST CONFERENCE NAVIGATES THE LATEST WAVE OF INSOLVENCY

January 25, 2011, Alexandria, Va. — More than 150 practitioners are expected to attend the American Bankruptcy Institute's (ABI’s) 19th Annual Bankruptcy Battleground West conference, scheduled for March 4, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency Center Plaza in Los Angeles. The day-long conference offers up to 5.0 hours of CLE credit and 6.0 hours of CPE credit. This year's program looks at municipal financial distress, the reorganization of real estate enterprises and the challenges of confirming a chapter 11. Prof. Kenneth Klee, an economist at UCLA Law School, will share insights and experiences from his recent tenure as a court-appointed examiner in the chapter 11 cases of media giant Tribune and its subsidiaries.

This year’s program will also feature a special debate as two of the West’s leading business bankruptcy practitioners, Cynthia M. Cohen of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP (Los Angeles) and Richard M. Pachulski of Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones LLP (Los Angeles) square off against each other in an oral argument before an esteemed panel of four bankruptcy judges.

Program co-chairs are Martin R. Barash of Klee, Tuchin, Bogdanoff & Stern LLP (Los Angeles), Robbin L. Itkin of Steptoe & Johnson LLP (Los Angeles) and Jeffrey M. Reisner of Irell & Manella LLP (Newport Beach, Calif.). Bankruptcy Judge Barry Russell (C.D. Calif., Los Angeles) is the Judicial Chair.

·      Municipal Upheaval in California: Is Chapter 9 the Solution?
