ABI’s SIXTEENTH ANNUAL BANKRUPTCY BATTLEGROUND WEST SET TO TAKE PLACE FEBRUARY 22

November 29, 2007, Alexandria, Va. — More than 150 practitioners are expected to attend the American Bankruptcy Institute's (ABI’s) sixteenth annual Bankruptcy Battleground West conference, scheduled for February 22, 2008, at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel, Santa Monica, Calif. The day-long conference, titled “Lost in Translation: Same Code, Different Views,' offers up to 5.0 hours of CLE credit. The program will also include a luncheon presentation by ABI Resident Scholar Prof. Mark S. Scarberry of the Pepperdine School of Law (Malibu, Calif.) on statutory interpretations and the rule of law. The roster of speakers at this year's conference features experts from across the region.

Program co-chairs are Scott F. Gautier of Peitzman, Weg & Kempinsky LLP (Los Angeles), Debra Ann Riley of Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis LLP (San Diego) and Victor A. Sahn of SulmeyerKupetz, APC (Los Angeles). Bankruptcy Judge Mitchel R. Goldberg (C.D. Calif.) is the Judicial Chair.

Panel topics for ABI’s Bankruptcy Battleground West conference include the following timely issues:

“The Price Is Right: Lowering Costs or Lowering Claims?” session will be moderated by Robert B. Orgel of Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones LLP (Los Angeles) and include panelists Jonathan A. Carson of  Kurtzman Carson Consultants, LLC (El Segundo, Calif.), Mark S. Horoupian of SulmeyerKupetz, APC (Los Angeles) and David P. Simonds of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP (Los Angeles).

“Whose Bankruptcy Case Is It, Anyway? The Validity, Scope, and Extent of Third-Party Releases and Injunctions” will feature a panel including Bruce S. Bennett of Hennigan, Bennett & Dorman, LLP (Los Angeles), Bankruptcy Judges Peter W. Bowie and John J. Hargrove (S.D. Calif.), David L. Osias of Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis LLP (San Diego) and retired U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge John E. Ryan (C.D. Calif., Santa Ana).

Gregory O. Lunt of Latham & Watkins, LLP (Los Angeles) will moderate the “Lust, Caution: Deal-Making in the Shadows of Equitable Subordination and Recharacterization” session with panelists Russell A. Belinsky of Chanin Capital Partners LLC (Los Angeles), Scott F. Gautier of Peitzman, Weg & Kempinsky LLP (Los Angeles) and Eric D. Goldberg of Stutman, Treister & Glatt, PC (Los Angeles).

“The Precedential Debates: Differing Views on §506(b)'s Import on Interest, Fees and Guarantees” session, moderated by Pamela K. Webster of Buchalter Nemer, PC (Los Angeles), will feature a panel including Peter W. Lianides of Winthrop Couchot, PC (Newport Beach, Calif.), David J. McCarty of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP (Los Angeles) and Jonathon S. Shenson of Klee, Tuchin, Bogdanoff & Stern LLP (Los Angeles).
