ABI’S TWELFTH ANNUAL ROCKY MOUNTAIN BANKRUPTCY CONFERENCE TO BE HELD JANUARY 25-27, 2007

September 25, 2006, Alexandria, Va. — The American Bankruptcy Institute’s (ABI) Twelfth Annual Rocky Mountain Bankruptcy Conference will take place Jan. 25 – 27, 2007, at the Hyatt Regency in Denver, Colo. The conference will feature eight bankruptcy judges and address such timely post-BAPCPA (Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005) topics as means testing, individuals and small businesses in chapter 11, and a judges’ roundtable. Program co-chairs for the Rocky Mountain Bankruptcy Conference are David E. Leta of Snell & Wilmer, LLP (Salt Lake City) and Risa Lynn Wolf-Smith of Holland & Hart LLP (Denver). The judicial chair for the conference is Bankruptcy Judge Elizabeth E. Brown (Denver).

Brent R. Cohen of Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons LLP (Denver) will moderate “Eye-Opener Forum & Breakfast: Advocacy Tips (and Other Admissions Against Interest) from the Best in the Business,” featuring past ABI Presidents Andrew W. Caine of Pachulski Stang Ziehl Young Jones & Weintraub LLP (Los Angeles), Richardo I. Kilpatrick of Kilpatrick & Associates PC (Auburn Hills, Mich.), John D. Penn of Haynes and Boone LLP (Fort Worth, Texas), Michael P. Richman of Foley & Lardner LLP (New York), Deborah D. Williamson of Cox Smith Matthews Inc. (San Antonio) and  Bettina M. “Consumer Workshop I: Means Test and Related Matters” features panelists Stephen Berken of Berken & Associates (Denver), David L. Miller (Layton, Utah) and Paul G. Quinn of the U.S. Trustee Office (Denver).

The “‘Stepping into the Breach:’ Circuit Splits Not Yet Resolved in the 10th Circuit” session will be moderated by Annette W. Jarvis of Ray, Quinney & Nebeker, P.C. (Salt Lake City) and include panelists Bankruptcy Judge Glen E. Clark (Salt Lake City), Kenneth L. Cannon II of Durham Jones & Pinegar (Salt Lake City) and Frances M. Toole of the U.S. Department of Justice (Alexandria, Va.).

“‘Playing Second Fiddle:’ Protecting and Enforcing Second-Lien Positions,” moderated by Elizabeth K. Flaagan of Holme Roberts & Owen LLP (Denver), will feature a panel that includes Bankruptcy Judge A. Bruce Campbell (Denver), James T. Burghardt of Moye White LLP (Denver), Thomas R. Califano of DLA Piper US LLP (New York) and Christopher L. Richardson of Davis, Graham & Stubbs, LLP (Denver).

Michael J. Pankow of Brownstein, Hyatt & Farber, PC (Denver) will moderate “‘Playing on the Home Court:’ State Court Collection and Protection Remedies and Methods,” featuring panelists Bankruptcy Judge Anthony W. Bruce Coles of Fish & Coles (Denver), Douglas Wayne Jessop of Jessop & Company, PC (Denver), Michael A. The “‘Too Hot to Handle:’ Hot Topics under BAPCPA – New Published and Unpublished Decisions” session will be moderated by Carl A. Eklund of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP (Denver) and feature a panel including Bankruptcy Judge Janice Miller Karlin (Topeka, Kan.), Adelaide Maudsley of Chapman and Cutler LLP (Salt Lake City) and Greta A. McMorris of Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP (Kansas City, Mo.).

Bankruptcy Judge Elizabeth E. Brown (Denver) will moderate the luncheon policy debate titled “Is BAPCPA Effective at Achieving Its Intended Goals and Objectives?,” which will feature panelists Prof. Richard I. Aaron of S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah (Salt Lake City), Robert M. Duitch of Robert M. Duitch, Attorneys at Law, LLC (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Richardo I. Kilpatrick of Kilpatrick & Associates, PC (Auburn Hills, Mich.) and Prof. Bruce M. Price of the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver.
