Andrew C. Helman of Murray Plumb & Murray Selected as One of ABI’s 2019 “40 Under 40”

Alexandria, Va. ABI announces that Andrew C. Helman of Murray, Plumb & Murray (Portland, Maine) has been selected as one of ABI’s “40 Under 40,” ABI’s annual program that recognizes 40 of the top insolvency industry professionals under the age of 40. Honorees will be recognized at a special ceremony during ABI’s 2019 Winter Leadership Conference, taking place Dec. 5-7 at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

Helman is a partner at Murray, Plumb & Murray in Portland, Maine, and co-chairs the firm’s bankruptcy practice. He works with all types of businesses, including those in the health care sector, to help them protect their assets. A large part of his work is focused on helping debtors and creditors find solutions to problems caused by financial distress and counseling them on how to avoid those problems in the future. He also represents clients in distressed and nondistressed transactions, business litigation and preference actions.

Helman has been involved in some of the most significant chapter 11 cases in Maine and New Hampshire in recent years, including the representation of the debtor-in-possession in the largest health care bankruptcy case in Maine’s history. He frequently writes articles for national insolvency publications and teaches seminars on bankruptcy and fraudulent-transfer law. Helman was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2015-2017 Super Lawyers “Rising Stars” lists and was one of 40 attorneys nationally to participate in the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges’ 2016 NextGen Program. Prior to attending law school, Helman worked in politics and journalism; he served as an aide to two of Maine’s House Majority Leaders, and he was a reporter for The Providence Journal and also wrote for The Boston Globe. Helman received his J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law in 2010 and his B.A. in social thought and political economy and journalism in 2002.
