Alexandria, Va. — The American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) announces that Bankruptcy Judge Pamela Pepper (E.D. Wis.; Milwaukee) has been elected to ABI’s Board of Directors. An ABI member since 2005, Judge Pepper has served as the co-chair for ABI’s Consumer Bankruptcy Committee, a member of the board of ABI’s Central States Bankruptcy Workshop and is a frequent speaker at ABI events. She will serve a term of three years on the 60-member ABI Board of Directors. Judge Pepper was appointed to the bankruptcy bench for the Eastern District of Wisconsin in Milwaukee on July 5, 2005, and has been chief judge of the Eastern District of Wisconsin since July 1, 2010. Prior to her appointment, Judge Pepper was sole practitioner in Milwaukee from 1997 through 2005. Before starting her own practice, she was an assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, where she worked her way up to the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force. Judge Pepper is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Association for Women Lawyers, the Seventh Circuit Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Eastern District of Wisconsin Bar Association, and the NACTT Academy for Consumer Bankruptcy Education. Previously, she served on the boards of Federal Defender Services and the State Public Defender. She is a former president of the Milwaukee Bar Association and co-chairs its Bankruptcy Bench/Bar Committee. Judge Pepper received her B.A. at the Northwestern University in 1986 and her J.D. at the Cornell Law School in 1989.
