Brian L. Shaw Named ABI President

Alexandria, Va. — The American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) announces that Brian L. Shaw of Shaw Fishman Glantz & Towbin LLC (Chicago) has been selected by the ABI Board of Directors to be President for a one-year term beginning at ABI’s 2014 Annual Spring Meeting, which was held April 24-27. An ABI member since 1998, Shaw is formerly ABI’s Vice President-Membership, co-chair of ABI’s Young and New Members Committee and a contributing editor to ABI’s periodical, the ABI Journal. He also chaired ABI’s inaugural Professional Development Program and regularly serves on the faculty of ABI’s Litigation Skills Symposium. Shaw has 18 years of experience representing debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, creditor and equity committees, chapter 7 and 11 trustees, and plaintiffs and defendants in bankruptcy-related litigation. He is a past chair of the Chicago Bar Association’s Bankruptcy and Reorganization Committee, has spoken on a variety of bankruptcy-related topics at regional and national conferences, and has authored or co-authored numerous articles in such publications as Norton Bankruptcy Law Letter, The Bankruptcy Strategist, Business Credit and Credit Today, as well as for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education. He also co-chaired the program “New Code and Rules: Anticipating Issues and Problem Solving” at the Standard Club in downtown Chicago. Shaw is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law.
