David Guess of Bienert, Miller & Katzman, PLC Selected for ABI’s “40 Under 40”

Alexandria, Va. ABI announces that David Guess of Bienert, Miller & Katzman, PLC (San Clemente, Calif.) has been selected for ABI’s “40 Under 40,” recognizing 40 of the top insolvency industry professionals under the age of 40. This year’s awardees will be formally recognized at ABI’s 2018 Winter Leadership Conference, taking place Dec. 6-8 at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Guess is a partner with Bienert, Miller & Katzman, PLC, where he is the senior bankruptcy and corporate restructuring attorney. He was formerly a partner with Klee, Tuchin, Bogdanoff & Stern LLP, where he represented debtors Wet Seal, PacSun, Sport Chalet, Eastern Mountain Sports, Bob’s Stores, National R.V. and Lake Las Vegas, a bankrupt developer of a resort community surrounding a man-made lake. Guess has represented the asset-purchasers of Hot Dog on a Stick, Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes. He also was appellate counsel in the asbestos bankruptcy case of Thorpe Insulation, Brotman Medical Center and Alabama Aircraft. In addition, he was on the defense teams in the multi-billion-dollar Tronox and Samson Investment fraudulent-transfer adversary proceedings.

Guess has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers and Martindale-Hubbell. He is a member of the boards of directors of the Southern California Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association and of the Los Angeles and Orange County Bankruptcy Forums, and he has helped organize and spoken at various conferences and educational events, including ABI’s. He also is a pro bono mediator for all bankruptcy courts in Southern California. Guess graduated fourth in his class from UCLA School of Law.

“The 2018 ABI ‘40 Under 40’ Class is already advancing the bankruptcy profession forward,” said ABI Executive Director Samuel J. Gerdano. “Each of these remarkable young men and women are attaining achievements not just in their professional careers, but also as leaders in their communities.”

The “40 Under 40” winners are distinguished by professional achievements and service and were selected by a group of experienced professionals from ABI’s current leadership. Nominations were submitted via the initiative’s website, through which professionals nominated themselves or a colleague. Membership in ABI was not required, and more than 200 candidates were evaluated. Those selected were chosen from both large and small firms from every region of the country, and represent diverse practice areas such as law, finance, accounting, consulting, academia, government and more.
