David R. Kuney Elected to ABIs Board of Directors
Alexandria, Va. — The American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) announces that David R. Kuney of Sidley Austin LLP (Washington, D.C.) has been elected to ABI’s Board of Directors. An ABI member since 1987, Kuney is the founding chair of ABI’s Views from the Bench conference. He co-authored ABI’s Single Asset Real Estate book and authored Bankruptcy Issues for Commercial Landlord, Tenants and Mortgagees, 2nd Edition. He is also a contributor to the ABI Journal, a frequent speaker and a member of ABI’s Real Estate and Business Reorganization Committees. He will serve a term of three years on the 60-member ABI Board of Directors.
Kuney is a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Sidley Austin LLP, where his practice focuses primarily on representing both debtors and creditors in real estate restructurings, complex chapter 11 bankruptcy cases and complex civil litigation, with an emphasis on cases involving commercial real estate property, retail and landlord cases, homebuilders, public utility bankruptcies and retail bankruptcies on behalf of both landlords and commercial tenants. Recently listed among the “Best Lawyers” in U.S. News and World Report, Kuney is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and co-chaired its Bankruptcy Committee for five years. He is also an adjunct professor of bankruptcy law at Georgetown University Law Center. Kuney served with the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam and was honorably discharged with the rank of captain. He graduated with high honors from the University of Virginia in 1967 and from the University of Virginia Law School in 1973.
