Alexandria, Va. ABI announces that George R. Howard of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP (New York) has been selected as one of ABI’s “40 Under 40,” ABI’s annual program that recognizes 40 of the top insolvency industry professionals under the age of 40. Honorees will be recognized at a special ceremony during ABI’s 2019 Winter Leadership Conference, taking place Dec. 5-7 at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

Howard represents companies, banks, secured lenders, distressed-debt investors, asset-purchasers and other significant constituencies in stressed and distressed situations, with an emphasis on out-of-court restructurings, chapter 11 reorganizations, secured financing transactions, distressed M&A and cross-border insolvency proceedings. He routinely advises clients on structuring and consummating chapter 11 restructurings, secured financings, and distressed sales and acquisitions, as well as ring-fencing transactions, spin-offs and other major corporate transactions. Howard also has experience counseling clients on corporate formalities and fiduciary duties, and fraudulent conveyance, illegal dividend, mass tort, environmental, pension and other legacy liability issues. He was named one of Turnarounds & Workouts Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyers in 2019. Howard received his J.D. from the University of Arizona College of Law, his M.B.A. from the University of Arizona in 2008 and his A.B. from Princeton University in 2002.

The “40 Under 40” winners are distinguished by professional achievements and service and were selected by a group of experienced professionals from ABI’s current leadership. Nominations were submitted via the initiative’s website, through which professionals nominated themselves or a colleague. Membership in ABI was not required, and more than 350 candidates were evaluated. Those selected were chosen from both large and small firms from every region of the country, and represent diverse practice areas such as law, finance, accounting, consulting, academia, government and more.
