Jose Carles of Carles Cuesta Abogados Selected as One of ABI’s 2019 “40 Under 40”

Alexandria, Va. ABI announces that Jose Carles of Carles Cuesta Abogados (Madrid, Spain) has been selected as one of ABI’s “40 Under 40,” ABI’s annual program that recognizes 40 of the top insolvency industry professionals under the age of 40. Honorees will be recognized at a special ceremony during ABI’s 2019 Winter Leadership Conference, taking place Dec. 5-7 at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

Carles is the co-founder of the Spanish legal boutique Carles Cuesta Abogados in Madrid and co-heads its Business Recovery, Restructuring and Insolvency group. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Restructuring and Insolvency Section of Madrid’s Bar Association (Sección de Reestructuraciones e Insolvencias, ICAM) and of the Cross-border Corporate Insolvency and Commercial Law Research Group from The City Law School (London), and he co-chairs the Legal Tech & Digital Assets Wing of INSOL Europe. He is also a professor in restructuring and insolvency law at ICADE, Universidad CEU San Pablo and Centro Universitario Villanueva. Carles has extensive experience directing and teaching programs and seminars in prisons and detention centers aimed at social rehabilitation. A multilingual attorney, he speaks Spanish, English, French, Italian, German, Catalan and Hebrew.

The “40 Under 40” winners are distinguished by professional achievements and service and were selected by a group of experienced professionals from ABI’s current leadership. Nominations were submitted via the initiative’s website, through which professionals nominated themselves or a colleague. Membership in ABI was not required, and more than 350 candidates were evaluated. Those selected were chosen from both large and small firms from every region of the country, and represent diverse practice areas such as law, finance, accounting, consulting, academia, government and more.
