Alexandria, Va.— ABI announces that Marc N. Swanson of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, PLC (Detroit) has been selected as one of ABI’s “40 Under 40,” ABI’s annual program that recognizes 40 of the top insolvency industry professionals under the age of 40. Honorees will be recognized at a special ceremony during ABI’s 2019 Winter Leadership Conference, taking place Dec. 5-7 at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

Swanson is a principal and Bankruptcy Deputy Group Leader at Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, PLC in Detroit. In bankruptcy cases throughout Michigan and across the country, he represents debtors, lenders, creditors, equityholders and unsecured creditors' committees. Swanson served as the lead attorney for the City of Detroit in its bankruptcy case. He has experience in the municipal, energy, automotive, banking and building supply industries. In 2018, Swanson was recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for Bankruptcy and Creditor/Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization. He is also co-chair of the Debtor/Creditor Rights section of the Michigan State Bar Association and vice chair of the Debtor/Creditor Rights section of the Detroit Bar Association. Swanson frequently speaks at restructuring conferences and seminars and publishes articles on insolvency-related topics. He is a member of Leadership Detroit and serves on the board of Cass Community Social Services, a nonprofit based in Detroit. Swanson received his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2007 and his B.A. from the University of Michigan in 2004.

The “40 Under 40” winners are distinguished by professional achievements and service and were selected by a group of experienced professionals from ABI’s current leadership. Nominations were submitted via the initiative’s website, through which professionals nominated themselves or a colleague. Membership in ABI was not required, and more than 350 candidates were evaluated. Those selected were chosen from both large and small firms from every region of the country, and represent diverse practice areas such as law, finance, accounting, consulting, academia, government and more.
