R. Scott Williams Named ABI Vice President-Membership

Alexandria, Va. — The American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) announces that R. Scott Williams of Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker LLC (Birmingham, Ala.) has been named to a two-year term to serve as ABI’s Vice President- Membership. A member of ABI’s Board of Directors since 2007 and an ABI member since 1993, Williams has been a co-chair of ABI’s Litigation Skills Symposium and on the advisory board of the Southeast Bankruptcy Workshop. He succeeds Brian L. Shaw, who was named ABI President-Elect at ABI’s Annual Spring Meeting in April. Williams is a partner with Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker LLC in Birmingham, Ala., where he concentrates his practice in bankruptcy, reorganization, creditors' rights and related commercial litigation. He has represented debtors and creditors in a variety of complex bankruptcy cases, and also has extensive experience representing parties in complex commercial litigation. From 1988-92, Williams served as counsel to U.S. Senator Howell T. Heflin on the Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Courts and Administrative Practice, and also served as legislative liaison to the Federal Courts Study Committee in 1989-90. While serving with Sen. Heflin, Williams played a significant role in drafting the U.S. Bankruptcy Code Amendments enacted in 1995. He serves as a contributing editor to Collier on Bankruptcy. He received his B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his J.D. from the University of Alabama, where he was the student works editor for the Journal of the Legal Profession.
