Steven M. Berman Elected to ABI's Board of Directors

Alexandria, Va. — The American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) announces that Steven M. Berman of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP (Tampa, Fla.) has been elected to ABI’s Board of Directors. An ABI member since 1996, Berman is a special projects leader of ABI’s Health Care Committee, a member of the Advisory Boards for ABI’s Stetson-Paskay Bankruptcy Seminar and Bankruptcy Battleground West conference, and is a frequent speaker at ABI events. He will serve a term of three years on the 60-member ABI Board of Directors.

Berman is a partner in the Tampa, Fla., office of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, specializing in the firm’s bankruptcy and creditors’ rights practice group. He has more than 27 years of bankruptcy experience and has focused his practice as a business bankruptcy litigator representing creditors, trustees, committees and business entities litigating disputes in bankruptcy court. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Certification in both Creditors’ Rights Law and Business Bankruptcy Law and is a member of both the Florida and California Bars. Berman serves on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Certification and is a member of its Faculty Committee. On a local level, he is a member of the Tampa Bay Bankruptcy Bar Association, the Bankruptcy Bar Association of the Southern District of Florida, the Southwest Florida Bankruptcy Professionals Association and the San Diego Bankruptcy Forum. Berman also serves as Judge Advocate to the Coronado Yacht Club in Coronado, Calif., and volunteers to provide bankruptcy and insolvency training for U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General officers and staff. He received his B.S. in multinational business operations from Florida State University and his J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he continues to guest lecture.
