SUBPRIME LENDING INDUSTRY, CHAPTER 11 ISSUES AND FUTURE OF BANKRUPTCY TO BE EXAMINED AT ABI’S THIRTEENTH ANNUAL ROCKY MOUNTAIN BANKRUPTCY CONFERENCE

— The American Bankruptcy Institute’s (ABI) Thirteenth Annual Rocky Mountain Bankruptcy Conference will take place Feb. 14 – 15, 2008, at the Westin Tabor Center in downtown Denver. The conference will feature 12 bankruptcy judges and address such timely topics as the subprime lending industry, commercial real estate trends, consumer issues under BAPCPA and a panel looking at the future of bankruptcy. The panel features U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-Colo.), a former bankruptcy practitioner before his election to Congress in 2006. Program co-chairs for the Rocky Mountain Bankruptcy Conference are David E. Leta of Snell & Wilmer, LLP (Salt Lake City) and Risa Lynn Wolf-Smith of Holland & Hart LLP (Denver). The judicial chair for the conference is Bankruptcy Judge Elizabeth E. Brown (Denver).

Elizabeth K. Flaagan of Holme Roberts & Owen LLP (Denver) will moderate the “Skiing within Bounds (or Close to the Edge): Supreme Court Cases and Hot Topics” session with panelists Bart B. Burnett of Pearson, Horowitz & Burnett, PC (Denver), Bankruptcy Judge  Glen E. Clark (Salt Lake City), Theodore J. Hartl of Lindquist & Vennum PLLP (Denver) and Steven T. “Business Fraud in Bankruptcy/Ethics: Taking Candy from Babies” will be moderated by Douglas Wayne Jessop of Jessop & Company, PC (Denver) with panelists Alan V. Funk of Alan V. “Consumer Workshop IV: Reading the Trail Map—Pre-bankruptcy Planning under BAPCPA” will be moderated by Joel T. A judges roundtable, featuring all 12 bankruptcy judges in attendance, will also be held at the conference.

Two programs sponsored by the International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWRC) will also be featured at the start of the 2008 Rocky Mountain Bankruptcy Conference.“Perspectives from the Distaff Bench” will feature Bankruptcy Judges Marcia S.
