Tara J. Schellhorn of Riker Danzig Scherer Hyland & Perretti, LLP Selected as One of ABI’s 2019 “40 Under 40”

Alexandria, Va. ABI announces that Tara J. Schellhorn of Riker Danzig Scherer Hyland & Perretti, LLP (Morristown, N.J.) has been selected as one of ABI’s “40 Under 40,” ABI’s annual program that recognizes 40 of the top insolvency industry professionals under the age of 40. Honorees will be recognized at a special ceremony during ABI’s 2019 Winter Leadership Conference, taking place Dec. 5-7 at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

Schellhorn practices in Riker Danzig's Bankruptcy and Reorganization Group and focuses on all aspects of bankruptcy and restructuring, including the representation of debtors, creditors’ committees, trustees, financial institutions, secured lenders, unsecured creditors and other parties in interest in complex chapter 11 cases. Schellhorn also has experience in bankruptcy litigation, including prosecuting and defending nondischargeability, preference and other avoidance actions. In addition, she has significant experience representing clients on complex corporate lending issues, including the representation of indenture trustees in default and bankruptcy situations. Her practice also includes civil litigation in both federal and state courts.

Schellhorn holds leadership positions in a number of bankruptcy and insolvency organizations. A member of the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC), she currently co-chairs the IWIRC-New Jersey Network and is vice director of fall programs for the IWIRC International Board. Schellhorn is currently Education Co-Director of ABI’s ABI Young & New Members Committee and a contributing editor to the ABI Journal, overseeing its “Building Blocks” column. In addition, she is a member of the Lawyers Advisory Committee to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. Schellhorn is also involved in a number of other organizations, including co-chair of the Morris County Bar Association's Women Lawyers Committee and a member of the board of advisors of the Widener University Commonwealth Law School.

Schellhorn earned her J.D. magna cum laude from Widener University School of Law in 2007 and received ABI's Medal of Excellence in 2007 for outstanding performance in her bankruptcy coursework. She received her undergraduate degree magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Gettysburg College in 2004.

Gerdano. “We look forward to engaging these young leaders in the full range of ABI's activities, in service to the profession.”

The “40 Under 40” winners are distinguished by professional achievements and service and were selected by a group of experienced professionals from ABI’s current leadership. Nominations were submitted via the initiative’s website, through which professionals nominated themselves or a colleague. Membership in ABI was not required, and more than 350 candidates were evaluated. Those selected were chosen from both large and small firms from every region of the country, and represent diverse practice areas such as law, finance, accounting, consulting, academia, government and more.
