Volo ABIs Circuit Court First-Responder Website Surpasses 1000 Case Summaries

Alexandria, Va. — The American Bankruptcy Institute’s Volo circuit court opinion first-responder website (http://volo.abi.org/) recently surpassed 1,000 summaries of Circuit Court decisions pertaining to bankruptcy or insolvency. The site was created in 2010 by ABI to provide practitioners with timely analyses of the most significant bankruptcy decisions from the U.S. Courts of Appeal. The 1,000th post on ABI’s Volo site featured a summary on the Eighth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel’s (BAP) decision in the Patriot Coal Corp. v. Peabody Holding Co. case. The Eight Circuit BAP held that Peabody Holding must continue to pay health care benefits for certain retired miners and dependents who worked for Heritage Coal Co., a Peabody subsidiary that was transferred to Patriot Coal in 2007. Volo, Latin for “speed,” utilizes a team of editors from around the country to summarize and post new appellate opinions within 24 hours of the appellate court releasing the decision. The website is searchable and includes the full text of all opinions. Volo users can also subscribe to an RSS feed to receive summaries as soon as they are posted. The service is free to all ABI members. ### ABI is the largest multi-disciplinary, nonpartisan organization dedicated to research and education on matters related to insolvency. ABI was founded in 1982 to provide Congress and the public with unbiased analysis of bankruptcy issues.
