Debt Creates Isolation!

IsolationAre you or have you ever been in debt?  I am talking about the kind of debt that swallows you whole. The kind of debt you obsess about counting.   As you continue to count each dollar you owe, the tighter your chest becomes.  The debt continuing to squeeze until you can’t breathe anymore.  Your obsession becomes the debt you have accumulated and believing that without a miracle you are never getting out of debt.

At night you try to sleep but the night’s slumber eludes you.  The single thought consuming the very essence of your soul is debt.  How much debt do I have now?  How did my debt spiral out of control? How am I going to put food on the table with all this debt?  How am I going to take care of my family with all this debt?

As your debt continues to grow and the solutions seem out of reach, your life feels as though it is slipping through your fingers.  In addition to creating sleepless nights debt affects your relationships with your friends, co-workers and family.  To avoid the friction debt has caused, you begin to pull away from everything and everyone.

You’re snapping at people because you‘re scared and don’t know where to turn.  Talking about what bugs you is not the answer because in doing so you think you will have to admit you failed to keep the finances under control.

So you don’t want to talk and you don’t want to be around others.

Isolation sets in as you begin avoiding interactions with others. You do everything in your power NOT to interact with family or friends.  You cannot go out with friends because you don’t have any extra money.  You cannot take your family anywhere because you don’t have any extra money.  Your kids are complaining all the time because they have off brand food and off brand clothes.

So what do you do?  You can choose to ignore the debt but that choice has not worked for you.  Your choice of isolation and avoidance has not reduced your debt but it is increasing the feeling of loneliness and defeat.  So this is not the right choice either.

You need to make a choice allowing you to take back your life.  You are not a failure for having debt and just because you have debt today does not mean you have to carry that debt through tomorrow.

Bankruptcy can help.

Bankruptcy not only provides debt relief but it can help you reconnect with your family and friends.  It can help you step out of the darkness of isolation and back into the light of day.
