Krystal M. Ahart of Kahn & Ahart, PLLC Selected as One of ABI's 2020 "40 Under 40"

Alexandria, Va. ABI announces that Krystal M. Ahart of Kahn & Ahart, PLLC (Bankruptcy Legal Center™; Phoenix) has been selected as one of ABI’s “40 Under 40,” ABI’s annual program that recognizes 40 of the top insolvency industry professionals under the age of 40. Honorees will be recognized at a special virtual ceremony in February 2021.

Ahart is a partner and focuses her practice on representing individual and commercial clients in chapter 7, 11 and 13 bankruptcy proceedings, and also assists businesses through the bankruptcy process. She began her legal career at 16 when she was hired as a receptionist for the law firm of James F. Kahn, P.C. in 2002, moving her way up from file clerk/receptionist, to secretary, to paralegal, and finally to lawyer, all while caring for a sibling, working during the day, and taking her undergrad and law classes at night.

Ahart is an active member of the legal community and devotes a substantial amount of time to serving the underserved. She works closely with the Volunteer Lawyers Program (VLP) on the Friend of the Court Reaffirmation program at the bankruptcy court, where she teaches law students various skills, such as effective client communication, interviewing skills, courtroom decorum and presentation. They then assist pro se debtors through the reaffirmation process. She was recently honored with the Volunteer Attorney Leadership Award for her commitment to the success of the Self-Help Center at the bankruptcy court, and the Hon. Sarah Sharer Curley Self-Help Center Volunteer Award for her consistent involvement with and assistance to pro se debtors at the Bankruptcy Court’s Self-Help Center.

Ahart is a past-president of the Young Lawyers Division Board of the Maricopa County Bar Association and currently serves on a number of other nonprofit boards/committees. She also serves as secretary of the Executive Committee of the Arizona Consumer Bankruptcy Counsel (ACBC). In her free time, she enjoys snowboarding, camping and hiking with her dog.

“Accomplished in both their careers and communities, the 2020 class of honorees is an inspiration for the future of the insolvency community,” said ABI Executive Director Amy Quackenboss. “We look forward to collaborating with this diverse collection of young leaders in the full range of ABI's activities to advance the profession.”

The “40 Under 40” winners are distinguished by professional achievements and service and were selected by a group of experienced professionals from ABI’s current leadership. Nominations were submitted earlier this year by the candidates themselves or by colleagues via the initiative’s website, http://abi40under40.org. More than 200 candidates, each with outstanding records of professional achievement and community leadership, were evaluated by 20 judges. The majority of the applicants were partners, directors or managing directors at their firms.
